Students

Students of Deva Matha College Kuravilangad are expected to reach the college sufficiently early for the classes. On reaching the college they should go to the classrooms or library and engage themselves in some academic work. They should not wander about the college or indulge in activities that affect the normal functioning of the College.

Classes will be held from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 1.15 p.m. to 3.15 p.m. and the time from 3.15 p.m. to 5 p.m. will be treated as tutorial hours.

Students are expected to behave in an exemplary manner within the college and outside.
-
Every day, classes begin with a prayer song. Students are requested to be in attention posture when the song begins and keep standing so till it ends. Students are expected to reach the classroomsbefore the prayer song commences. Students outside the classroomstoo are expected to join the prayer song.

Students are expected to stand up when the teacher enters the classroom and remain standingtill the teacher takes his/her seat or till they are allowed to sit down by the teacher.

Greet the teacher appropriately when he/she comes to the class.

No student shall enter or leave the classroomwhen the session is on without the permission of the teacher.

Howling or shouting is not allowed onthe college campus.

Students are expected to spend their free hours in the library or in thereading- room. They should not loiter along the corridor or crowd along the verandah.

Do not disfigure the walls, doors, windows, desks, tables, and other items of furniture with graffiti, engravings, etc.

Unauthorized crowding or assembly or procession inside the campus is strictly prohibited.

Politically basedstudentorganizationsor outfits are not allowed within the campus. Students are strictly prohibited from organizing, attending, or participating in any political activity oncampus.

The College being a temple of learning and a zone of knowledge, no student shall resort to any form of strike/ agitation or shouting slogans within the campus.

The Principal hasthe power to declare a holiday for the college in case of emergencies.

In the matter of discipline, the decision of the Principal shall be final.

Students shall wear their ID tag within the campus, failing which a fine of Rs. 50/- will be imposed.

All students shall dress modestly and properly. Students are required to come in uniform except on Wednesday. Students not in proper dress code/uniform will not be allowed to enter the college campus.

Students are not supposed to wear T-shirts with indecent printing/writing on them and those without a collar.

Students are not allowed to enter other classroomswithout the prior permission of authorities.

Students absenting themselves from the class without proper leave application for more than 10 days shall be removed from the rolls. Re-admission of such students is at the discretion of the Principal.

No student is allowed to remain oncampus after 5 p.m. without the permission of the Principal.

Students are not allowed to bring their vehicles beyond the parking area near the college gate as per the order of the Honourable High Court of Kerala.

Consumption of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, etc. is prohibitednthe campus. Action will be initiated against those who indulge in such practices.

Any case of criminal activity or violation of law and order onthe college campus will be reported to the police.

Any student persistently insubordinate, repeatedly or willfully mischievous, guilty of fraud or malpractice in exams shall be removed from the rolls. The removal shall be either temporary or permanent depending on the gravity of the offense.

As per Government directions, the mobile phone will not be permitted within the college campus for students. Students are therefore requested not to bring mobile phones to the college campus. Students and their bags will be searched randomly for mobile phones, in case of suspicion. The mobile phones thus collected from students will be confiscated. It can berecovered only by the parents of the students concerned bygiving a fine of Rs.500 each and a written guarantee that this will not be repeated.

If a student is absent for one hour it will be treated as absence for half a day, and if his absence is for two hours or more, it will be treated as absence for one full day. A student requiring leave for only a particular period may be granted such leave by the teacher concerned. Application for leave for more than one period must be submitted to the Principal in the prescribed form by 10.00 am When absence is due to some unforeseen cause the application must be submitted as early as possible, and in no case, later than the first day of the student’s return to the college.

Absence without prior request for leave from any examination or practical work will be reported by the teachers concerned to the Principal. Leave of absence from a term - examination should be obtained from the Principal. A student absenting himself for a period exceeding five working days whether with leave or without leave should, on his return to the college should report to the Principal. A student absenting himself without leave for more than ten consecutive days will have his/her name removed from the rolls, and he/she may be readmitted on payment of College dues if any. Every application for leave shall be countersigned by the student'sguardian and recommended by the staff guide or the Head of the Department.

The minimum attendance prescribed by the University is 75% of the working days in the semester. Exemption from the shortage of attendance ( subject to a maximum of 10 days) can be granted by the Syndicate on recommendation by the Principal, provided leave has been applied for and granted for such absence on satisfactory grounds. Such condonation will be granted for such absence on satisfactory grounds, but only twice during a program. Duty leave for Physical Education activities will be granted only to athletes representing the college or universities in various matches, tournaments, and/or sports events. A student deputed to participate in matches, tournaments, and sports events should submit his leave application duly recommended by the Director of Physical Education for necessary action, not later than one week after the event. The maximum period for which duty leave can be granted to a student for sports and athletics is limited to 10% of the total number of working days.

An Identity card along with a tag will be issued to the student at the time of admission. It is the responsibility of the student to see that the card is duly attested by the Principal. The student should wear this card while on campus and produce the same on demand for inspection by any member ofthe staff. If a student is found not wearing the identity tag, he/she shall be fined an amount of Rs. 50/-. If the card is lost, a duplicate can be obtained on payment of Rs.100/-. The Identity card will be required on many occasions such as voting at the Students’ Council Elections, claiming Hall Tickets, Mark Lists, Certificates, Scholarships, Stipends, and the like.
