The Department of Commerce set sail in the year 1968 with the commencement of the Pre-Degree Batch and B.Com. Degree programme. The first batch of B.Com was started in 1968 with fifty students. The Department was elevated to the status of a Post Graduate Department in 1981, when the University of Kerala permitted the onset of M.Com. Course. Prof. T.M. Devasia was the founder Head of the Department of Commerce, who became the Principal of the College in 1991. Prof. T.C. Kuriakose, Prof. George Mathew, Prof. V.F. George and Prof. N.M. Mathew were the pioneers of the Department. Our esteemed Alumni subsume Sri. Thomas Chazhikadan M. P., Sri. P. M. Mathew Ex. M.L.A, Msgr. Abraham Kollithanathumalayil, Vicar General, Diocese of Palai, Sri K. J. Devasia I.P.S.(Rtd), Dr. K. G. Jose, Director, Rajagiri Business School and Dr. Tharsis Joseph, Former Principal, Deva Matha College. Today the Post Graduate Department of Commerce is a name to reckon with which traverses ahead with “Together We Learn, Forever We Gain” as its motto, under the current Head of the Department, Prof. Anish Thomas.
