The Department of English was started with the College in 1964. In the beginning the department was headed by Prof. Alexis Thomas, a stalwart in Shakespearean studies. The department got elevated to a First grade department with the commencement of B.A. English Language and Literature in 1968. P.G programme which started in 1998 added yet another laurel to its credit. The Department was upgraded to Research Department in 2014. During the 57 years the department acted as a podium for good many veteran teachers and highly talented students, who all added to the rich heritage and glitteratti of the department. The department has six completed U.G.C. assisted minor projects to its credit.
